SpeakHer NYC: Empowering Women on Stage with Improv
The new SpeakHer association from App Growth Summit is designed to help give women speakers and soon-to-be speakers the community, tools, and confidence required to take their equal place on the stages of the tech industry. Having soft-launched in 2019, we’ll be ramping up membership, chapter activities, and meet-ups across all 7 cities where App Growth Summit produces events.
A small group from our first chapter, New York City, met for an intimate workshop on Monday, January 27, 2020 at The PIT (Peoples Improv Theater) in the Flatiron neighborhood of NYC. This workshop focused on how improvisational skills can assist in public speaking (and so much more)!
In the 90-minute class, our amazing speakers enjoyed the light-hearted atmosphere of improv games and going with the flow, because, let’s face it, anything can (and will!) go wrong on stage from time to time! Learning some fun and fluid ways to overcome any unforeseen obstacle and keep the presentation rolling is a great tool to have at a presenter’s disposal.
Our next stop is a SpeakHer SF Chapter kick-off dinner in San Francisco, while the NYC chapter gets ready for their next meet-up…a roundtable discussion at a private dinner. We’re also planning a SpeakHer kick-off for the
LA Chapter in the near future as well!
